Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to put in the Hair Extensions?
It depends on what type of extensions service you will will receive on the day of your service. However we work fast due to the way we work. Box braids and Rope twist normally take less than 4 hours, Micro Braids may take us up to 4 hrs., Fusion Keratin Extensions takes up to 5-6 hours, Long Kinky Twist takes up to 3 hrs And Instantlocs™ varies depends on size and length client decides to get. Invisible braids normal takes us 2-3 hrs. Normally it will take between 3-5 hours to create your new style. We work by appointment for this reason. Once you book an appointment a deposit is required to confirm your spot. Hair is suggested after booking is done.
How much will my Hair Extensions cost?
Price can vary depending on your needs and desires. Many clients simply wear Hair Extensions in order to add fullness to their Hair and not length. In this case cost will remain low ($150-$600). On the other hand, if someone with dense hair is looking for additional length, more hair must be added in order to maintain density from root to the new end. Therefore, cost increases accordingly ($900-$1400). A consultation is the best way to find out where in this spectrum you fall. The average price to add length is around $1000
Does it hurt to braid my hair?
I was specifically asked to add this to website to inform customers that my braids are harmless. We make sure we cater to tender headed scalp. We have a protocol process for each individual. We blow dry hair until completely straight, we then add moisturizer (grease), we then blow dry again to get the hair as straight as possible, therefore while we are braiding or applying extensions there won't be any tangles. This is how we are able to say we do everything possible so your experience will be harmless and a great experience.
Will I be able to comb/brush through my Hair Extensions?
Yes, combing through the Hair is a must. However combing through the actual Hair Extension bond is not possible. Combing over the bond with a boar bristle brush is recommended in order to keep the Hair around the bond from tangling with neighboring bonds.
Will my Hair Extensions need to be tightened?
(Fusion Extensions Response)
No. Unlike the type of extensions which are sewn into the hair or attached with "beads". Fusions extensions will grow out with your Hair and never need tightening.
Will my Hair Extensions fall out while I have them in my Hair?
The average person who wears hair extensions will have anywhere from 100 to 300 human hair extension bonds . Over the life of the Extensions (four months) some bonds may slip out. Proper care of the bonds will keep loss at a minimum.
How much is maintenance and how long does it take?
Maintenance for Fusion Extensions
Maintenance is scheduled every 4 to 6 weeks, the cost is around $165, and the appointment takes between an hour to 90 minutes.
How long does my hair have to be?
The minimum practical length is around 4"
Will I have to do anything special to take care of my Hair Extensions?
It is important that the Hair Extension bonds are kept dry as often as possible. Also, we recommend the use of a sulfate free shampoo, and a natural boar bristle brush to brush over the bonds themselves.
How do I match the Extension Hair color to my own Hair color?
Bee will make the decisions in respect to color matching. The Extension Hair is available in a wide variety of colors and in most cases several different colors will be used in order to achieve the most natural look
Can I wear my hair up?
Yes! When extensions are applied properly, you are able to wear it any way you like without anything showing.
How do I know my Extensionist has experience?
This can be difficult. Ask to see photos (before/after). Ask if you can contact one of his/her long term clients. Most hair extensions clients like to remain anonymous but there is usually one or two who like to talk about their extensions. If possible seek consultations with at least 2 stylists that way you will get a way of comparison. You could also email several extensionists. Go with who makes you feel most comfortable
What kind of extensions work for African American Women?
Most hair extension techniques that work for Caucasian women will also work for African American women. Black women typically use weaves that are sewn onto tiny braids. These can be great but they can also be very bulky. The strand-by-strand method that is most popular with Caucasian women works extremely well for African American hair. You will find that the hair will flow freely. You can actually run your fingers through it.
- As to when to relax I suggest relaxing hair 5 days before the application of the extensions and in most cases future relaxings will have to be done when the extensions are out. But you can talk to your stylist about this.
How much should I tip my hair extensionist?
I suggest about a 5%- 10% tip on the extensions total cost including the hair. If your extensions cost between $ 800.00 - $ 1500 most stylists would be very happy with a $100 tip you could give more if you wish but I don't believe it is necessary. If the extensions are below $500 I would try to stay close to 10% if you can.
Can extensions be used if my hair is thinning on top?
For people who have thinning hair on top, ?integration? (which involves using a hairpiece with your natural hair woven into it) provides a basis for the extensions and the necessary top layer to hide the bonds. Ask your stylist for details. Some insurers will help pay for this process as well as reimbursing for wig purchases for medical reasons.
We offer Instantlocs™ that will cover any area or ways to fill in that area. We also offer Crochet weave which last for up to 3 months. We offer repair solutions for those thinning out and already have natural dreadlocks.
Can I Use a Relaxer on my Fusion Hair Extensions?
You should fully treat your hair with a relaxer 24 hours before bonding Fusion Hair Extensions.
While wearing Fusion Hair Extensions only touch up treatments should be done, and you should seek the advice of your Fusion Hair Extension Stylist in doing so?
Do not apply relaxer on bonded areas. Rinse with face down.
Flat Irons & other heated styling equipment:
Do not use on bonded areas.
You may use these styling products on non bonded areas on Fusion Hair Extensions.
Almost all styling equipments can be used in styling. On some equipment, temperature can go up as high as 400 degrees or more such as Stove Iron.
Be sure that you are aware of the equipment temperature before styling.
Just like your own hair, Fusion Human Hair Extensions can be damaged due to extreme heat. Extreme heat will not only damage the product, but it will damage your own hair as well.
BRAIDS OR TWIST FAQ'S
WHAT LENGTH DOES MY HAIR NEED TO BE TO START DREADS OR BRAIDS?
To start braids your hair should be about 4" long all around head to have nice decent braids for all texture hair. To start dreads 3" is long enough to start dreads.
WHAT IF I AM NOT SURE WHAT STYLE BRAIDS I WANT?
Well to start you can look on my website for pictures of previous hair styles i have done and see if you can find something you like. If not you can google images of braids and bring me a picture and I will try my best to get it as close to the style as you like. My pictures are originals and are updated monthly.
DOES MY HAIR HAVE TO BE LONG FOR DESIGN BRAIDS?
It depends, some styles require more length then others. Depending on style the length of your hair will matter. It takes about 5 inches of hair for me to be able to complete any style completly. Many people who aren't sure if they hair is long enough may send me a picture and ask for my suggestions for the length that you have currently.

No one is excluded from starting dreads, whatever texture hair you have it can be successful. In order for you to get prices on dreads you must do consultation first. All hair textures due to clients being from all around the world who is different nationalities, hair textures are different. Therefore different methods of how your look can be created will be discussed through our consultation.
IS IT TRUE BRAIDS BREAKS MY EDGES OR HAIR?
NO, braids grows your hair not break it. However if you leave on your braids for too long and don't get the edges redone after 6 weeks it will continue to have new growth that will break if not taken cared of immediatly when noticable. I recommend you come in and get your edges redone after 6-8 weeks if you decide to keep it in longer. *Please note that breaking of your own hair is possible if you don't remove braids the right way. Please read info on removing braids or twist the right way.
HOW TO MAINTAIN HAIR BRAIDS / TWIST EXTENSIONS?
Braids and Twist Extensions can last for up to 3 months if you mantain your hair pretty well. Which means, no swimming with braids, no working out and sweating out braids to an extent, no washing synthetic hair and most human hair. Braids or Twist Extensions are holding your natural hair down however texture of your natural hair may change if you get excessively wet. Some braid like Micro Braids Human hair extensions are durable hair styles for working out or getting wet, however some time texture of your own hair may be noticable when gets fuzzy. Your braids can be shined or greased with an oil base base hair spray with no alchohol daily, you should tie down braids every night with a du-rag (handkerchief type scarf made for hair). Braids should not be washed unless you ask your stylist first. If you have wet and wavy hair you should buy a spray bottle and mix bottle half with tresemme conditioner for curly hair into bottle and other half with water. shake it well and spray on ends daily, you can also add non-alcohol mousse on ends mostly the applied hair not your natural hair. Keep your natural hair as dry as possible to avoid any extensions from falling out. Extensions are secured in every way possible but just like a nail can break you may lose a few braids from styling. Edges can be redone at half the price paid if you decide after 6 weeks you want to keep them in longer your edges will need to be redone because this is the thinnist part of your hair.
Please note if someone gets invisible braids those braids can last up to 6 months however you will need to get edges done two times before removing.

DREADLOCK QUESTIONS:
What should I wash my dreadlocks with?
You should only wash your dreadlocks in a shampoo that leaves no residue behind. Some people say that you don't have to use a shampoo that removes residues or doesn't leave any residues behind, but most of the time, their dreadlocks look terrible and the shampoo is to blame. I recommend DreadHead residue free shampoo.
How often should I wash my dreadlocks?
You should get in the habit of washing your dreadlocks every month, your dreadlocks will lock up fast and they will look and smell good at the same time. As long as you wash your dreads once a month you should be fine. When you are just starting out you can't wash for first three months. Instantlocs™ can be washed right away. However when starting natural locs you have a schedule to go by before you can do washes often. However for those who work out or have hair scalp issues may need to wash there hair once a week and its possible that many have to practice this to keep hair from smelling if you have a schedule that allows you to sweat out.
Do I have to use a different shampoo when I have dreadlocks?
Yes, you need to use a shampoo that leaves no residues behind in your hair and removes residues that are in your hair. The reason using this kind of shampoo is so important when you have dreadlocks is because dreadlocks like to hold stuff. When you have normal hair the residues are free to fall out and fall out while you are brushing your hair, but when you have dreadlocks you don't brush your hair, and the hair isn't free to let the residues fall out. So the residues begin to build up, and after a while they can cause the dreadlocks to mold. The residues also lubricate the hair, so the knots can't tighten as much as they could if there were no residues there.
Can I use Conditioner on my Dreadlocks?
Yes you can use conditioner on your dreads after they have been already locked up. Meaning they are matured and has gone thru the stages. If you are in the beginning stages, then no its not a good idea to use conditioner because it will loosen up your dreads and will make the process longer. However after dreads are formed its an excellent way to finish your wash, condition makes sure all soap and residue is out of hair and also re-moisturizes hair the way it should be.
Can I use Treatment on my Dreads?
Yes you can treat your hair as often as you like. We also recommend and provide good treatment in our salon. We promote hair growth and scalp treatment. Although you have dreads you may have a problematic area that will cause you not to sleep at night. Don't worry we have solutions to treat dreads. Sometimes you have to come in and see a specialist in that department. And at Braids by Bee @ The Braiding Depot Inc. we treat your hair to grow. However we recommend you do hot oil treatments on your own time before coming in for maintenance.
What should I look for in a bad shampoo?
A shampoo that has scents, or conditioners is an enemy to dreadlocks. Stay away from these types of shampoos. Some shampoos are bad for dreadlocks because they leave residue behind in the dreadlocks. But most of all stay away from cheap shampoo, although some may think its all the same, its not this is your hair and you should treat it like luxury. Shopping around for shampoo may be a challenge but all hair types are different you have to go according to your texture and what you have done to your hair such as color, or is it natural, is it curly what type should you be using?
You do not have to shave your head when you want to CUT out the dreadlocks you don't even have to cut your hair. Here are the ways to take dreadlocks out:
1. You can cut or shave your head if you don't care about your hair, this is the
fastest way to remove the dreadlocks.
2. Cut the deadlocks until they are about 3 inches long and then soak the rest of
the dreadlocks in VO5 conditioner and comb them out. This will leave you
with about 4 or 5 inches of hair.
3. You love your hair and want to keep it. Just soak the dreadlocks in VO5
conditioner and comb them out, it may take a couple hours but you will get to
keep your hair. Don't worry if you lose a lot of hair while you are combing
the dreadlocks out, this is hair that would have fallen out in the day-to-day hair
removal cycle. The only reason you still have it is because you had dreadlocks
and dreadlocks keep the hair all knotted together.
What are the different methods you can make natural dreadlocks?
Backcombing
Twist and Rip
Twist and Pin
Twisting
Brush Rubbing
Dread Braiding
Neglect
Instantlocs™
How long until the dreadlocks look like dreadlocks?
The dreads will look like dreadlocks after you make them if you use the backcombing, twist and rip, twist and pin, twisting, or brush rubbing method. It will take about 3-6 months for the dreads to lock up completely with these methods. The dreads will look like dreads in about a year with the dread braiding and neglect method, and they will lock up at about the same time. If starting with InstantLoc Dread Extensions right away they look like dreadlocks because of the technique used.
Is wax good for dreadlocks?
Wax is great for dreadlocks, it helps moisturize them while holding together while they are new and premature, however when dreadlocks are matured and long you can result to only using gel for Locs and no wax due to residue it leaves behind.
Is Aloe good for dreadlocks?
Aloe is a good dread conditioner, but only use it as a dread conditioner, it can't hold new knots together at all.
